Hi there— I’m Paola Zorrilla Steenbock, a BCACC registered clinical counsellor (#20884) with a deep passion for supporting children and families with a creative, values-based approach, supported by empathetic curiosity. With a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology, with a concentration in school and youth counselling, my approach merges psychology with creativity, to support kids in ways that feel humanly authentic and compassionate.
Guiding Principles
My neurodivergence-affirming practice centers on creating an empathetic, empowering space where neurodivergent children and teens can safely explore their authentic selves and build self-acceptance, through their interests.
My practice is rooted in a neurodivergence-affirming approach that emphasizes empathy and creativity. I strive to create a space where neurodivergent children and teens feel empowered to explore their authentic selves and safely discover their preferences and emotional range. I honor each client’s unique experience within the broader context of family, community, and societal expectations, acknowledging the challenges of systemic norms.
My goal is to build a collaborative relationship that prioritizes each client’s voice, and minimize power imbalances to in turn help client’s empower themselves, and creating a path toward embracing their individuality and sense of belonging.
Intersectionality & Positionality
I am a Mexican-German, first-generation immigrant who brings a values-driven perspective shaped by diverse cultural identities and lived experiences. As an able-bodied, multilingual, gender-fluid person with lived experience of mental illness and neurodivergence, I approach life with empathy and a nuanced understanding of others’ journeys.
I share these aspects of myself because I believe each person is made up of multitudes, with no single identity capturing the whole.
